Day 6

Subject: Don't neglect your blog, [firstname]!

Hi [firstname],

If you've been in IM any length of time, you probably have (or maybe had) a blog. Perhaps you've neglected it a bit in recent times.

If you have, you've made a big mistake!

Having a blog is crucial to your Internet marketing efforts; in fact, I'd go so far as to say that you should make your blog the keystone of all your IM efforts.

Why?

Even though blog marketing isn't as effective as it used to be, it isn't dead yet. It helps to get your site indexed, and helps you communicate with past customers. There are also tools available to help you syndicate your blog so you can broadcast articles to a winder audience – I explain how in my Internet Marketers' handbook. If you're just starting a blog – or you've neglected your blog for a while – then it's a good idea to post every day until your blog gets indexed. After that you can cut things down to once every few days.

If you're stuck for ideas, you can simply rewrite and re-purpose the e-mails you send to your list.

When you write your blog, it's a good idea to sprinkle some keywords throughout your copy. Don't stuff it with keywords, but use them perhaps a bit more liberally than you would in a conversation. Keywords don't carry as much weight as they used to, but they're still important for SEO.

If you have a WordPress blog, there are plugins and widgets you can use to link your Facebook and Twitter accounts to your blog (and vice versa). Some are free, some you have to pay for. The widget that allows you to display your Twitter feed in the sidebar is extremely useful because every time you post a Tweet, your blog gets updated. Every time your blog gets updated, it gets crawled by search engine spiders – which is great for your SEO. How cool is that?

Warmly,

[Your Name]
